“A sound mind resides in a sound body”. Sports play a vital role in developing an individual mentally and physically. To celebrate its uniqueness and to provide a platform to the students to showcase the spirit of sportsmanship, Annual Sports Day was held at Shanti Asiatic School, Jaipur on 3rd December, 2017. The celebration began with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Padmashree and Arjuna Awardee, Olympian, Honorary Captain Shriram Singh, along with School Trustee Sh. Shrichand Chaudhary, and other distinguished guests, escorted by the Jaipur Terriers Pipe Band, playing the welcome tune. The Principal, Sh. Manvendra Kanoongo formally welcomed the gathering and apprised everyone with the sports activities and achievements of the students. The Opening Ceremony commenced with the unfurling of the school flag by the Chief Guest, followed by the march-past by the smartly turned out contingents of all the four houses in their respective house uniforms. The Director, Ms. Neelima Sharma then administered the oath of sportsmanship. The Chief Guest announced the opening of the event by releasing colorful balloons after which the torch was lit and relayed through the ground by the sporting stars of the school. To showcase the significance of sports and games, students presented a harmonious drill based on Aerobics, followed by the display of self-defense skills by the SASKaratekas. The highlight of the day were the sports events which included Frog on the leaf, Cone balancing, Hurdle, Obstacle, Zig-Zag with football, 100mts, 200mts and 4×100 Relay races. To keep the spectators entertained, Rock and Roll and Book Balancing Race was organized for the parents and teachers respectively. The Chief Guest and other dignitaries awarded medals and certificates to the winners. The Best march past trophy was won by Vayu House. The best athlete award in Junior Group category went to Ojasvi Gora and Kaustav Sharma. Yashasvi Saini and Abufroo Wahengram won the same in Middle Group and Nikita Chaudhary and Ankit Kumawat in Senior Group Agni House took away the most coveted Champions Trophy for being the best performer in sports in the session 2017-18, while Prithvi House was awarded with the Runners-up Trophy. During the closing ceremony, the School Band “Oceans” rejoiced everyone with Kesariya Balam and some catchy English numbers. The grand finale was the scintillating dance performance by the Primary school students which was mixed with patriotism and the spirit of the sports.In his address to the students; the Chief Guest admired the sporting facilities in the school and the performance of the students. Ms. Sarika Gambhir, the Senior Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks. The programme came to the end by lowering the School Flag and rendition of the national anthem.
